As a high school Art Teacher I find this book to be rather useful for its study of the human form in different positions. It is of course a publication of a sketchbook kept by Edgar Degas, and some of the images here are similar to images that appear in his finished ballerina pieces later so I can show my students how an idea can later become a finished piece or at least a part of a finished piece. The other great thing about this book is its lack of words, so when I ask a student what it is a picture of, or what the picture makes them think of, they can no simply read a caption and repeat an idea the author had.As a student of art the line work here is what you would expect in a sketchbook from a master, and there is a lot to be learned simply from studying what Mister Degas does with hatching and gestural work.
